When a COVID-19 case has been reported to the school division and confirmed:

  • Contact tracing will be conducted through the collaborative efforts of school staff (school administrators, school nurses, division health services contact, and transportation staff (if applicable) and the VDH Crater Health District.
  • Any individuals identified through contact tracing as close exposure contacts will be contacted by the school nurse or administrator and will be required to quarantine based on Quarantine guidance from the last date of exposure.
    • Per the CDC, a close contact is defined as someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 cumulative minutes ( ex., three interactions of five minutes each) during an interaction starting from days before illness onset of symptoms or, for asymptomatic individuals, two days before their testing date. *Exception of (3-6 ft. with masks)
    • Prior to returning to work or school, any employee or student who is diagnosed or tests positive for COVID-19 must complete all of the following:
      • At least 10 days have passed since the diagnosis; and
      • At least 24 hours have passed since the resolution of fever with the use of fever-reducing medications; and
      • Symptoms have improved;
      • Provide a note from a healthcare provider or a release letter from the Virginia Department of Health to return to school/work
    • Accommodations for continued learning will be addressed through the student’s school 
    • Please note that cases are not reported on the day an individual becomes ill, but on the day the individual becomes a confirmed COVID-19 case. 
    • Virginia Department of Health* “When It Is Safe To Be Around Others” guidance will be used.
  • Additional cleaning within the impacted areas of the school as well as impacted buses will be performed.
