K-12 Grading Procedures

Elementary (Grades K-5)

  • All graded assignments must have a minimum of ten questions.
  • Teachers should make every effort not to give a “zero” on any assignment. A consistent procedure must be developed with your building administrator to address individualized plans for students that fall into this category.
  • All K-2 subjects will operate on a non-weighted scale.
  • All 3-5 subjects will operate on a weighted scale.
  • SPED – use IEP when modifying the grading procedure

K-5 Assignment Breakdown Per Subject

Subject Tests, Benchmarks, In-Class Projects (60% grades 3-5) Class Work, Homework, Quizzes (40% grades 3-5) Minimum Assignments Required Per 9 Weeks

Secondary (Grades 6-12)

  • Please note that this does not apply to dual enrollment courses. The grading procedures for all dual enrollment courses will continue to be according to the agreement between Dinwiddie High School and the College or University.

Middle School (except high school credit courses use the High School categories)

6-8 Assignment Breakdown Per Category

  • Tests: minimum of 4-35%
  • Quizzes: minimum of 5-30%
  • Daily/Classwork: 25%
  • Homework: 10%
  • Projects: Same as test grade or teacher discretion depending upon content, length, etc…

High School

9-12 Assignment Breakdown Per Category

  • Tests: minimum of 4-40%
  • Quizzes: minimum of 5-30%
  • Daily/Classwork/Homework/Participation: 30%
  • Projects: Same as test grade or teacher discretion depending upon content, length, etc…

JROTC

JROTC Assignment Breakdown Per Category

  • Testsminimum of 4-20%
  • Quizzes: minimum of 5-15%
  • Participation (physical training, uniform wear, parades, community events and weekly classroom participation): 50%
  • Classwork/Projects/Papers: 15%

HPE

HPE Assignment Breakdown Per Category

  • Participation: 60%
  • Fitness: 20%
  • Classwork/Quizzes/Tests: 20%
