Spring Break Extended

On April 8, 2024, a rare solar eclipse will cross Virginia. This solar eclipse will not occur again for 20 years. It will start in Dinwiddie County around 2:00 p.m. and is expected to last until 4:30 p.m., with the primary eclipse happening around 3:15 p.m.

This is a great learning opportunity for students; however, because it is expected to occur during dismissal, the potential is significant for students to be tempted to view it without proper safety precautions while exiting the building or while getting off the bus. We also anticipate that staff may choose to take off, and many parents will elect not to send their children to school on that day to share the experience and activities with their families.

Therefore, Dinwiddie County Public Schools will extend our spring break through Monday, April 8. Schools and offices will reopen on Tuesday, April 9.
