CTE Students of the Year Announced

DCPS Honors Career & Technical Education (CTE) Students

by Dawn Cater, Jun. 26, 2020

Each year the DCPS Career & Technical Education (CTE) program recognizes those students that have displayed exceptional leadership, motivation, and dedication within their respective Career & Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs).  Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 crisis, their recognition could not be done during the annual CTE End of Year Banquet. After each CTSO sponsor selected their top student, their leadership award plaques were ordered and delivered to each student. The following are the 2020 CTE Students of the Year:

  • Future Farmers of America (FFA) – Allison Reiter, who will be attending Southside Virginia Community College
  • Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) – Bryuanna Bain, who will be attending Hampton University
  • Army Junior Reserves Officers’ Training Corps (AJROTC) – Hayley Karp, who will be attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
  • SkillsUSA (Technical Drawing) – Logan Henley, who will be attending New River Community College
  • SkillsUSA (Building Trades & Renovations) – Shelby Lail, who will be attending John Tyler Community College
  • Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) – Olivia Pintabona, who will be attending Southside Virginia Community college
  • DECA – Indigo Peterson, who will be attending Norfolk State University

Once the CTSO sponsors select the winners for their respective organizations, members of the CTE Advisory Board were asked to review the packets and select the Overall CTE Student of the Year.  The 2020 Overall CTE Student of the Year is Indigo Peterson.

The Dinwiddie Middle School (DMS) also supports the CTSOs.  Both FFA and FBLA are represented at DMS.  We also recognize those students that have shown themselves to be up and coming leaders within their organization.  The DMS CTE Students of the Year are:

  • FBLA – Marquenice Powell- Perkins
  • FFA – Drake Schnepf

Congratulations to all the students that work diligently to make each of the Dinwiddie County Public Schools CTE programs a success!
