Senior Cheyenne Wray Going Semi-Pro

Dinwiddie County High School’s senior Cheyenne Wray is a lot like any other student athlete, giving her all to the sport she loves.  What sets her apart is that she is the only female on the Generals Varsity Football team and signing the schools’ first semi-pro contract.  The contract was signed on February 11, 2020, with the River City Sting of the United States Women’s Football League.

Cheyenne started playing football her eighth grade year after signing up in seventh grade.  Since other sports just wasn’t her game and she has always loved football, she decided to give it a shot, and has never looked back.  As an integral part of the DHS football team, she has earned her place as the starting long snapper and has played both offensive and defensive lines. Cheyenne is quoted by Marc Davis with NBC12.com as saying, “It might make me a little bit insane, but I love this.  I love doing this. I love being here with all of these guys and they’re treating me like an equal.” Cheyenne has said that anything she does with passion and drive, she has the full support of her mom and dad and how amazing is it to have people like that in your corner.

“…People can do whatever they put their mind to. There’s nothing holding you back but yourself, and you need to get out there and do what you want to do.”   — Cheyenne Wray

Her coach, Billy Mills said on signing day, “She’s inspiring anybody out there who may not be gifted with this or that but if you work hard, good things will happen for you,” remarked Mills. “That’s exactly what she’s done.”

In an October 2019 article by Jeff Milby with The Progess Index, Cheyenne was quoted as saying “Honestly, I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again — it’s 2019. People can do whatever they put their mind to. There’s nothing holding you back but yourself, and you need to get out there and do what you want to do.”  We could not have said it better and the Dinwiddie County Generals family is proud of what Ms. Wray has accomplished and will continue to accomplish in the future!
