Dates Announced for Bright Star Program Registration

A young asian american girl smiling.Dinwiddie County Public Schools is accepting applications for the Virginia Preschool Initiative (Bright Stars Program) now.  The goal of the 4-year-old program is to provide a healthy learning environment for children whose social or economic conditions may put them at risk of poor school performance.

Enrollment priority is given to children with the greatest number of factors impacting their environment. Some of the factors considered for program eligibility include income level of parent/guardian, educational level or the parent/guardian, child characteristics and other family stressors.

Each VPI classroom is limited to 18 students. Current classrooms are located at Southside Elementary School. The program will operate on the same calendar and schedule as the elementary school. The program does not operate on a first come/first serve basis, rather a continuous enrollment until the program is filled. Eligible students must be 4-years-old by September 30, 2019 and be a resident of Dinwiddie County.
