School and Community Relations

The Office of School and Community Relations serves as a bridge between Dinwiddie County Public Schools and the students, families, employees, community members, and partners we serve. The office works to ensure that accurate, timely, and meaningful information is shared across the school division while highlighting the people, programs, accomplishments, and opportunities that make up the Dinwiddie experience.

Through strategic communication, community engagement, public relations, and storytelling, the Office of School and Community Relations helps strengthen trust, build connections, and create opportunities for our community to stay informed and engaged in the work of Dinwiddie County Public Schools.

Responsibilities

The Office of School and Community Relations provides leadership and support in the following areas:

  • Division Communications – Coordinates divisionwide communication to students, families, employees, and the community through newsletters, announcements, electronic messaging, publications, and other communication platforms.
  • Website and Digital Communications – Supports the management of the division website and digital communication channels to ensure information is current, accessible, and reflective of the work taking place throughout our schools.
  • Media Relations – Serves as a primary point of contact for news media, coordinates responses to media inquiries, prepares news releases, and helps communicate important division information to the broader community.
  • Public Relations and Storytelling – Celebrates student and staff achievements, innovative programs, partnerships, school events, and other stories that demonstrate the impact of Dinwiddie County Public Schools.
  • Social Media – Manages and supports division social media platforms to provide timely information, celebrate accomplishments, promote opportunities, and strengthen engagement with the community.
  • Family and Community Engagement – Develops opportunities to strengthen relationships among schools, families, businesses, civic organizations, faith-based organizations, government partners, and other community stakeholders.
  • Community Partnerships – Helps cultivate partnerships that provide resources, experiences, mentoring, recognition, and other opportunities that support students and schools.
  • Brand and Identity – Promotes consistent use of the Dinwiddie County Public Schools brand, messaging, visual identity, and publications to ensure that division communications are professional, recognizable, and aligned with our mission and vision.
  • Emergency and Crisis Communications – Works with division leadership to provide clear, accurate, and timely information to families, employees, the media, and the community during emergencies, school disruptions, or other critical situations.
  • Special Events and Recognition – Supports divisionwide events, celebrations, recognitions, ceremonies, and initiatives that bring our schools and community together.
  • School Communication Support – Provides guidance, resources, and assistance to school administrators and departments in communicating effectively with families, employees, and the public.
  • Community Feedback and Connection – Helps create pathways for stakeholders to ask questions, share feedback, and remain connected to the work and direction of the school division.
