Operations staff support every school and department across the division, focusing on safety, reliability, innovation, service, fiscal responsibility, and continuous improvement. Their work ensures that students arrive safely, buildings function effectively, technology supports teaching and learning, and schools have the operational systems necessary to focus on student success.
Responsibilities
The Department of Operations provides leadership and support in the following areas:
- Transportation – Coordinates safe and efficient student transportation, including bus routes, driver staffing, vehicle maintenance, transportation for specialized programs, and daily operational support.
- Facilities and Maintenance – Oversees the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of school buildings, grounds, equipment, and building systems to provide safe, functional, and high-quality learning and working environments.
- Technology Services – Provides the technology infrastructure, devices, systems, applications, and technical support necessary for teaching, learning, communication, and division operations. The department supports students and employees with reliable access to digital resources while maintaining secure and effective technology systems across the school division.
- Instructional Technology Support – Collaborates with instructional leaders and educators to ensure that technology enhances teaching and learning, expands student opportunities, and supports innovative instructional practices.
- Network, Systems, and Cybersecurity – Maintains division networks, servers, information systems, internet connectivity, and cybersecurity practices to protect data, support reliable access, and promote the safe and responsible use of technology.
- Device and Equipment Management – Coordinates the deployment, maintenance, repair, inventory, and replacement of student and employee technology devices and related equipment.
- Custodial Services – Supports clean, healthy, and welcoming school environments through the coordination of custodial operations, supplies, procedures, and facility care.
- School Nutrition – Supports the delivery of nutritious meals and food services that promote student health, wellness, and readiness to learn while meeting applicable federal and state requirements.
- Capital Improvement Planning – Works with division leadership and community partners to identify facility and infrastructure needs, prioritize capital projects, and plan for renovations, improvements, technology investments, and long-term needs.
- Construction and Renovation Projects – Coordinates and monitors school construction, renovation, and improvement projects to help ensure quality, efficiency, safety, and alignment with division priorities.
- Fleet and Equipment Management – Supports the maintenance and replacement of school division vehicles, equipment, and other operational assets necessary for reliable daily service.
- Safety and Facility Readiness – Works collaboratively with school leaders and division departments to address operational safety needs, building access, emergency preparedness, facility-related concerns, and supporting technology systems.
- Energy and Resource Management – Promotes responsible use of utilities, equipment, technology, and other resources while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce unnecessary operational costs.
- School and Department Support – Responds to operational and technology needs across the division and works with principals and department leaders to resolve facility, transportation, maintenance, technology, and logistical concerns.
- Operational Planning and Compliance – Develops procedures, monitors operational practices, and supports compliance with applicable laws, regulations, School Board policies, safety requirements, and technology standards.
- Continuous Improvement – Uses operational data, technology trends, feedback, inspections, and preventive maintenance practices to strengthen service delivery, anticipate needs, and improve the reliability and effectiveness of division operations.
