  • Honors course
  • Dual Enrollment (DE) / AP course
  • Based on ACP & counselor guidance
  • Important note

Dinwiddie Middle School — Grades 6–8

Middle School Science Sequence

All students follow the same sequence — follow the arrows ↓

Grade 6
Science 6
This course is not leveled. All students engage in hands-on learning and labs. Parents must review and sign the Lab Safety Agreement for students to participate in laboratory activities.
Grade 7
Life Science
This course is not leveled. All students engage in hands-on learning and labs. Parents must review and sign the Lab Safety Agreement for students to participate in laboratory activities.
Grade 8
Physical Science
This course is not leveled. All students engage in hands-on learning and labs. Parents must review and sign the Lab Safety Agreement for students to participate in laboratory activities.

Science 8 SOL: Students participate in the Science 8 SOL, which includes content from grades 6–8 (Science 6 Earth Science concepts, Life Science, and Physical Science).

Transition to High School: All students are recommended for the 9th grade sequence based on multiple data factors and course performance from grades 6–8. Students and families should carefully review options with the School Counselor when building the student’s ACP.

Dinwiddie High School — Grades 9–12

High School Science Sequence

Three ACP Pathways based on placement — students may move between pathways with demonstrated mastery and teacher/counselor recommendation based on course performance

Placement Note: 9th grade placement is based on performance in 8th grade Physical Science, SOL scores, and teacher recommendation. Biology Honors requires a Physical Science SOL score of 450+ or a teacher recommendation.

All three pathways lead here. Elective availability depends on your student’s completed sequence and ACP goals. Discuss with your School Counselor to choose the best fit.

  • Earth Science II – Oceanography
  • Astronomy
  • Biology II – Ecology
  • Biology II – Genetics
  • Biology II – Anatomy

Biology SOL Requirement: All students are required to take the Biology SOL. If a student passes and earns the verified credit, no additional SOL participation is required to graduate. Additional opportunities to earn a verified credit through SOL participation are available in Earth Science and Chemistry.

Chemistry Prerequisites: Prior to enrolling in Chemistry, students should pass Earth Science (or Environmental Science, N, AP, or DE) and the Biology SOL and course, as well as Algebra II. Students may also take Physics to satisfy the Advanced Studies Diploma requirement for laboratory science. Three unique science disciplines are required for the Advanced Studies Diploma.

Physics Prerequisites: Prior to enrolling in Honors Physics, students should have successfully passed at least 2 Honors, DE, or AP level science courses, as well as Algebra II and Geometry.
