Middle School Math Sequence

Transition to High School: All students are recommended for the 9th grade sequence based on multiple data factors and course performance from grades 6–8. Students and families should carefully review options with the School Counselor when building the student’s ACP.
Automatic Acceleration Policy: Per the Virginia Department of Education, students may be automatically accelerated based on demonstrated mastery. Parents are encouraged to review Policy IGBJ and IGBJ-R for full details on how acceleration decisions are made.

High School Math Sequence
Three tracks based on 8th grade completion — all lead to upper-level options
Acceleration: Students who wish to move into a more advanced track may do so by doubling up their math courses in a year with demonstrated mastery of their completed math course. See your School Counselor for details.
All three tracks lead here. Specific courses depend on your student’s completed sequence. Some courses require counselor approval or prerequisite verification. Work with your School Counselor to choose the best fit for your student’s ACP and career goals.

Graduation Requirement: To graduate, students must pass at least one of the following: Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II.
SOL Requirement: All students must participate in at least one mathematics SOL assessment at the high school level, even if a math course was completed in middle school.
