Elementary- Student Learning
At Dinwiddie County Public Schools, student learning is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to delivering high-quality instruction that is rigorous, engaging, and responsive to the needs of every learner. Our teachers work each day to ensure that students in every classroom, across every school, have access to the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to grow academically and prepare for a lifetime of success.
Curriculum :
At Dinwiddie County Public Schools, our curriculum is built on the foundation of Virginia's Standards of Learning and designed to challenge and inspire students at every grade level. Through carefully selected instructional materials and research-based practices, we provide a coherent, well-rounded educational experience across all content areas. Our goal is simple, to ensure that every Dinwiddie student is equipped with the knowledge and skills to excel in school and beyond.
Profile of a Dinwiddie Learner:
At Dinwiddie County Public Schools, we believe every student is capable of greatness — and we are intentional about defining what that looks like. The Profile of a Dinwiddie Learner captures the six core attributes we cultivate in every child from prekindergarten through graduation: Creative Thinking, Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, Citizenship, and Character. These are not just ideals; they are woven into the fabric of daily instruction and school culture at every level. From our youngest learners exploring ideas through curiosity and imagination, to our oldest students leading with integrity and purpose, the Profile of a Dinwiddie Learner reflects our shared commitment to developing well-rounded, future-ready individuals who are prepared to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the world.
Virginia Standards of Learning :
The Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) establish the academic expectations for students in the Commonwealth's public schools. The SOLs outline the knowledge and skills that students are expected to master in English, mathematics, science, social studies, and other content areas at each grade level. At Dinwiddie County Public Schools, our instruction is intentionally aligned to the SOLs, ensuring that every student is prepared to meet Virginia's academic benchmarks and build a strong foundation for future learning.
Environmental Literacy Plan:
Dinwiddie County Public Schools is committed to developing environmentally literate graduates who are equipped to make responsible decisions that strengthen our community and protect our shared natural resources. In collaboration with the Director of Secondary Education, the DCPS Environmental Literacy Plan provides a coherent, K–12 framework that embeds environmental literacy across content areas; from Science and Mathematics to ELA and History; in alignment with Virginia's Standards of Learning and VDOE expectations. At the elementary level, students begin building the foundational knowledge, curiosity, and civic awareness that will grow with them through graduation and beyond. In middle school, students deepen that foundation through structured investigation and real-world problem-solving, connecting classroom learning to the environmental realities of their own community. At the high school level, students apply their cumulative knowledge through civic action, advanced coursework, and meaningful engagement with the environmental challenges and opportunities that will define their generation.
