Elementary Career Preparation

At Dinwiddie County Public Schools, preparing students for the future begins in the elementary years. In alignment with the Virginia Standards of Accreditation, our Career Preparation program introduces students to the world of work through age-appropriate exploration of career clusters, interests, and values. Students engage in meaningful experiences, from classroom activities to real-world connections, that build self-awareness, curiosity, and the foundation for lifelong goal-setting. At DCPS, we plant the seeds of possibility early, because every great future starts with a first step. Some related examples include our Kindergarten AG Day and CTE Village events.
The Academic and Career Plan Portfolio (ACPP):
The Academic and Career Plan Portfolio (ACPP) is a requirement under Virginia's Standards of Accreditation. Beginning in the elementary grades, students explore occupations associated with career clusters and select areas of personal interest, building a portfolio that reflects their interests, values such as dependability and responsibility, and skills to support future decisions and goals. At DCPS, the ACPP is more than a document, it is a student's first step toward owning their future. Supported by school counselors and teachers, each child begins charting a path that will grow with them through middle school, high school, and beyond.
