Special Education Parent Resource Center

The Parent Resource Center (PRC) supports families of students with disabilities. The PRC helps parents to participate effectively in their children’s education and development.  The PRC works to create collaborative connections between families of students with disabilities and their schools by providing resources, training, and support.

What Is Special Education?

The Individuals with Disability Education Act guarantees a free appropriate public education to all eligible children with disabilities. Special education means specially designed instruction, at no cost to the parent, to meet the unique needs of a child with a disability. The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) offers extensive information about services, processes, and more online:  VDOE Special Education Website
