Southside High School Memorabilia

The committee for use and preservation of Southside High School, the African American high school in Dinwiddie County that operated from 1954 to 1969, sought memorabilia in 2013 for the planned museum. The building was last used as Dinwiddie Middle School, and was also Dinwiddie Junior High at one point, housing grades eight and nine for years. In an effort to preserve the historical nature of the building, a committee of about 25 citizens is working on gathering artifacts connected to the African American time period.

Citizens are being asked if they or a member of their family attended this school. The committee is still seeking pictures, trophies, yearbooks or letter sweaters from this era. Graduates can donate items for the museum or the committee can scan pictures and return the originals to the families. Donations may be brought to the School Board Office on Boydton Plank Road in Dinwiddie County.

Questions and concerns can be addressed Barbara Pittman, School Board member, at bpittman@dcpsnet.org.
