The VSU Verizon Innovative Learning Minority Male Program (VSU-VIL MM Program) is a year-long experience that kicks off with a 3 week summer camp from July 9 – July 27. The camp is held on the campus of Virginia State University Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and is for young men who will be in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade at the start of the next school year. The camp is free of charge. Transportation to and from VSU is provided and the students are served breakfast and lunch each day in the school cafeteria. During the program the young men will be exposed to 3D printing and modeling, coding, electronics, virtual and augmented reality, design thinking, and conflict resolution. They will also be given a Verizon Ellipse 11 tablet to work with during the day. Students who meet the attendance requirements for the year will be given the tablets for their personal use, at no cost.
