Each year, students at Dinwiddie High School participate in Virginia Readers’ Choice, a program sponsored by the Virginia State Reading Association. This program acquaints students with a collection of ten contemporary young adult books known for outstanding literary appeal, and supports awareness of literature as a life-long pleasure.
Students who read and submitted a book report for at least four books from the collection were eligible to vote for their favorite Virginia Readers’ Choice book. Students were also included in a random drawing for cash prizes. Popular titles among DHS students this year were: An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir, Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys and Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. The overall popular choice for Virginia was, Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys.
On May 11, 2018, participants were invited to the library to celebrate their reading accomplishments. Mr. Randall Johnson, Principal, awarded certificates to the nine DHS participants: Allison Halloway, Michele Hicks, Savannah Kelley, Arianna Peebles, Jasmine Peebles, Laura Rowland, Alexis Thomas, Kyla Thomas, and Jordan Winfield. DHS administrators assisted in the cash prize drawing. Jordan Winfield won first place, a $75 cash prize. Jasmine Peebles won second place, a $50 cash prize, and Laura Rowland won third place, a $25 cash prize. Congratulations to our lucky winners!
