Dec. 15 – Wreaths Across America – Popular Grove National Cemetery

Wreaths Across America volunteers participated in ceremonies and layed wreaths across the United States on Saturday, December 15 starting at 12:00 p.m.    Dinwiddie HS staff, students in collaboration with the National Park Services were integral players in making the ceremony held at Poplar Grove National Cemetery, here in Dinwiddie a success.  Members of the DHS choir sang the National Anthem, SFC (Ret) Bob Weaver, DHS ITRT, played Taps, Ms Melissa Von Poks, Asst Principal, DHS layed the ceremonial wreath in honor of those who have served and are serving in the Air Force and MAJ (Ret) Duncan Robinson, SAI, JROTC layed the ceremonial wreath in honor of those that served and are serving in the Merchant Marines.  Efforts by the community and the DHS JROTC resulted in double the number of wreaths layed last year.  This year 150 wreaths were layed.  The goal for next year is at least 200.  The process is not over once the wreaths are layed. As they did last year, our DHS FFA will coordinate with the National Parks Services to prepare the wreaths for disposal.  This involves removing the red bows and separating the wire from each wreath.
